The Griffith Observatory is a facility in Los Angeles, California, sitting on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles' Griffith Park. The Griffith Observatory's history began with Colonel Griffith J. After decades of planning and construction, it was dedicated in 1935 to make astronomy accessible to the public. The building underwent a major renovation and expansion from 2002 to 2006, restoring its original Art Deco style while incorporating modern technology. Notes: The Observatory opens its doors around 12:00 pm Tuesday - Sunday. The Observatory is closed on Mondays and major holidays.
