Meeting point: Lawson Oriental Hotel Fukuoka (arrive 10 minutes early). The itinerary includes a visit to Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, noted for appearances in the anime Hotarubi no Mori e and Natsume’s Book of Friends, with a path lined with nearly 100 lanterns and the Tooriwa Rock. The tour continues to Amano Iwato Shrine, associated with the myth of the sun goddess Amaterasu, and the nearby Amano Yasugawara where visitors commonly stack stones. At Takachiho Gorge participants follow a roughly 1-kilometre trail along the valley formed by volcanic activity, view the 17-metre Manai Waterfall, see the Three Bridges of Takachiho, the Onihashi Rock (a boulder tied with sacred ropes, described as about 200 tons), and the Sennin-no-Byobu rock (approximately 70 metres high).
