Full description

Pickup is provided at Oriental Hotel Fukuoka Hakata Station for a day trip that visits the Mojiko Retro District, Kokura Castle, and Miyajidake Shrine. In Mojiko, the route includes streets with buildings from the Meiji to early Showa periods, Kaikyo Plaza overlooking the Kanmon Strait, and the Mojiko Retro Observation & Souvenir Hall (Minato-ya); several Western-style historic buildings are noted along the waterfront. The tour continues to Kokura Castle, originally built in 1602 by Hosokawa Tadaoki, with access to the castle grounds, nearby Yasaka Shrine (dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto), and the Kokura Castle Garden, a restored Edo-period daimyo residence and strolling garden. The final stop is Miyajidake Shrine, the head shrine of all Miyajidake Shrines in Japan, founded about 1,700 years ago and dedicated to Empress Jingū; the shrine is known for the Path of Light (Hikari no Michi), where the sunset aligns with the shrine’s approach. The itinerary allows time for independent exploration at each stop.
